Please recommend daytrips by train from London to the South East of England?

I live in central London and would like some good ideas for places to visit by train, anywhere outside of London (but no further than e.g. Cambridge, Brighton), at the weekend, preferably just for one day, i.e. not requiring an overnight stay, but I’ll consider this too. I’m after both romantic destinations for couples, and family days out. Things to do are fine, and so are places that are simply beautiful to visit. If a short taxi ride is required to get from the station to the place of interest that’s fine, but my aim is to find places to visit primarily travelling by train. Thanks!
