I need some information on backpacking through Europe?

Me and one or two of my friends are very interested in going on a backpacking trip through Europe this year. I would like to visit London, England, Berlin, Germany Dublin, Ireland Glasgow, Scotland and possibly Paris, France. However before we are to do so I have a few questions that maybe you can help me answer.

*How much money altogether will we need e.g. flight (out of Denver,Colorado),hostels and spending money.
* What’s a good length of time?
(I would like to go for at least a month)
* What is good city to fly into/start off the trip?
* What is a good month for travel
* What is a good way of transportation? (The Train?)
* What is a good city in Spain to visit?
* What is a good way to earn additional money on the trip?
*And finally is there a city not on my list that I absolutely have to visit?
So if anyone can help me with answering these question I would greatly appreciate it?
